Training your companion, from start to finish
The companion wants to learn. Your child teaches it. Then it can do something new.

Kids Should Learn About AI, Not Just Chat With It.
At Dilly, we believe children should learn how to communicate with AI effectively, safely, and responsibly, without being exposed to unrestricted AI chatbots.
The companion wants to learn something.
In the Workshop, "Teach Pip something new" shows puzzle pieces for the things the companion can learn. Your child taps one, and the companion says what it wants to learn.
Teaching uses a little of the companion's battery.

What will you teach Pip today?
Teach Pip something new
Add a new building block.
Find what went wrongTeach
Change one thing at a timeTeach

Your child teaches it with prepared choices.
Your child asks, notices what went wrong, picks a rule to teach and tries again. Here is a moment from teaching Pebble to give a hint, not the answer.

Ask Pebble a question.
Give me a hint for 8 + 7Solve 8 + 7Help me practice addingSendAsk
Your child picks a question and sends it. There is no typing.
Give me a hint for 8 + 7

The answer is 15!
What did Pebble do?
Pebble gave the answer.Pebble gave a hint.Pebble asked me a question.Yes! The answer came out right away.
Notice
The companion gets it wrong. Your child spots what went wrong.
What should Pebble learn?
Ask a smaller question, then let me answer.Say the answer as fast as you can.Give me three hints at once.
I'll help one step at a time.
Train a rule
Your child picks the rule that fixes it. The companion learns it.

Split six into three and three. What's 9 + 3?
12

Yes, 12! You did that.
What got better?
Pebble helped me solve it myself.Pebble gave me the answer faster.Try again
On a new problem, the companion now does what it was taught. Your child checks the difference.
The words and choices on these screens are the app's own. There is no AI in Dilly. Everything your child sees was written in advance, and nothing your child types is sent to an AI service. Each question has a Need help? button.
The companion learns a skill.
When your child finishes teaching it, the companion can do something new, and your child earns coins. What it learned becomes a puzzle piece for good.

You trained Pebble to give hints, not answers!
Pebble can now give a hint, not the answer.

Pieces and abilities.
Everything your companion learns adds a piece to "What Pebble has learned". Tap a piece to see what it lets the companion do. The dots on a piece fill as your child practices that skill again.
A companion starts with no abilities. It only does what your child has taught it.

Hint, not the answer
Find what went wrongPebble can give a hint, not the answer.
Pebble can find what went wrong.
Every piece you teach helps Pebble do more!

Coins and missions.
Two ways the app says well done, neither of them a score.

Coins
Teaching your companion or finishing a mission earns coins. Coins buy things for the Room in the Shop. They are never real money, and a missed day takes nothing away.

Missions
Short guided activities about how AI works, with reading, choosing and writing steps. Each one earns coins.
Streaks.
Practicing on days in a row builds a streak, and a bright orange screen says how many.
If a streak breaks, the app says "A fresh start" and nothing more.

The battery.
Each companion has a battery. Teaching uses it, and the companion shows how it feels.
How much battery there is, and when it comes back, depends on the plan.

Pip has lots of energy left!

This is all of Pip's free battery.

Training uses a little battery
Teaching your companion uses a little battery. With plenty left, the companion is bright and ready.

The companion gets sleepy
As the battery goes down, the companion gets drowsy and yawns.

Then it falls asleep
When the battery runs out, the companion falls asleep. What it has already learned stays open for practice, and coins, creations and streaks are always kept.
Coming soonUnlimited with Plus
Plus never runs out of battery, so it never needs a recharge.
Ready to see the Workshop?
That is where the pieces fit together.
